Based on the short story "Private Pettigrew's Girl" by Dana Burnet and published in "The Saturday Evening Post" on September 14 1918. Copy belonging to an unknown crew member with holograph pencil annotations throughout. <br/><br/>Jimmy Stewart plays an idealistic soldier who convinces a Broadway star Margaret Sullavan to pretend they're dating in order to impress his other soldier friends. Meanwhile Sullivan's manager Walter Pidgeon has always been in love with her and objects to the pair's closeness even as they decide to get married before Stewart is shipped out to France. Stewart and Sullivan pull off surprisingly believable roles for a plot of such sickly sweetness in this their second on-screen pairing. <br/><br/>The third film based on Burnet's "Saturday Evening Post" story the first two being the 1919 George Melford silent film "Pettigrew's Girl" and Richard Wallace's part-talkie "The Shopworn Angel" 1928 starring Gary Cooper. Winner of the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film with an additional nomination for Ida Kraminska for Best Actress. <br/><br/>A Slovak man is given a sewing notions shop owned by an elderly Jewish woman as part of the government's Aryanization program. He doesn't have the heart to tell her and pretends to be her new employee. Blanco Posnet a drunkard in a small Western town faces hanging for stealing the sheriff's horse but the situation grows complicated when the jury learns that Posnet gave the horse to a woman carrying her dying child to the doctor in spite of the knowledge that he would be more easily caught on foot. The play was banned in its day for its blasphemous discussion of the subjectivity of good and evil and adapted decades later by prolific screenwriter and lyricist Henry Myers who was known for "Destry Rides Again" 1939 and "Hey Rookie" 1944.<br/><br/>Self wrappers. In this case that means Dean Jones and Susan Pleshette are back and Jones must again contend with turning into a large dog this time while running for office and having to prove that his political rival is connected to organized crime. Estimating script for an unproduced film. <br/><br/>The story of a small contingent of militant mercenaries who attempt to stir up a conflict between Cuba and the United States by piloting a hostile decoy Navy ship into enemy waters off Key West only to be thwarted by the actual Navy and a few well-meaning American citizens taken hostage. No doubt mirroring some of the public's concerns at the time given the tenuous peace established by the Cuban Missile Crisis the film remained unproduced perhaps considered too sensationalist or close to home. Screenwriter James Dickey was best known for his prolific work as a poet as well as for the 1970 novel "Deliverance" and its subsequent adaptation for the 1972 film.<br/><br/>"The Sentence" was inspired by Dickey's 1975 arrest after crashing into a utility pole.
