198094817Dallas TX: July 24 1980. 1980. Very good. - One-and-a half page letter typed on one side of a cream-colored 11 inch high by 9-12 inch wide sheet of Management West letterhead with Jurow listed as president at top left and on a follow-up sheet. Signed "Affectionately / Martin Jurow". There is some light creasing to the left edges of the sheets with a light paper-clip mark to their top edges. An ink notation at top right of the first sheet indicates the date when the letter was answered. Folded twice for mailing. Very good.
Jurow writes to Madeline Sherwood widow of playwright Robert E. Sherwood on behalf of two talented men who have gone ahead and prepared a book and many songs for a musical of "Waterloo Bridge". They have tried in vain to reach Madeleine Sherwood to ask for permission to develop the play as a musical. "They kept very much to the poignant and romantic concept of your Robert's work. My reaction to the men to their dedication and their ability was such that I vowed to write to you to intercede for these gifted people. I would go further and say that I would personally be ready to negotiate for the right to produce the musical. First in London and then wherever its success may lead." Sherwood's play premiered on Broadway in 1930. Apparently the musical version discussed here never came to fruition.
Martin Jurow 1911-2004 was a Hollywood producer known for "Breakfast at Tiffany's" "Terms of Endearment" and "The Pink Panther" among other films. Dallas, TX: July 24, 1980. unknown
