Mai 1977 in New York City) war eine US-amerikanische Schauspielerin. Joan Crawfords Karriere reichte von den Tagen des Stummfilms bis in die 1970er Jahre. Unter Filmhistorikern gilt sie als Personifizierung des klassischen Hollywoodstars, dessen publikumswirksame Attraktivität sich vor allem aus ihrer komplexen Persönlichkeit und dem öffentlichen Erscheinungsbild erschloss. Die Schauspielerin hat es im Laufe ihrer Karriere immer wieder verstanden, sich einem wechselnden Publikumsgeschmack anzupassen. Nachdem sie zu Beginn ihrer Laufbahn häufig ausgelassene junge Mädchen - damals Flapper genannt - darstellte, wechselte Crawford bis Mitte der 1940er in das dramatische Rollenfach.
