Gifted from the author to a fellow writer First edition first impression the author's ownership inscription on the head of the front free endpaper and subsequent book label of Daphne Muir on the front pastedown. Muir a South African poet and author moved to England in 1927 and the two authors developed a friendship. Warner records dining and attending classical music concerts with Muir in her diary. Warner wrote Mr Fortune's Maggot as a result of a vivid dream and recalled finishing it in a state of semi-hallucination. The novel "an appealing blend of cleverness oddity and pathos. rich in imagery and extraordinarily sensual descriptive prose" was incredibly popular both in the UK and the US where her first novel Lolly Willowes 1926 had been an unexpected sensation Harman Biography p. 71. Warner was in the centre of an active literary community and was close friends with many of the modernist authors to whom she is now compared. Prior to her novels she published a collection of poetry The Espalier 1925. In her life and writing Warner worked against societal norms: she was active in the Communist Party travelled to Barcelona during the Spanish Civil War to work with the Red Cross espoused "unconventional moral fables" in her Kingdoms of Elfin 1977 and lived as a married couple with her partner the poet Valentine Ackland for 38 years. Their love letters were published in 1998 under the title I'll Stand By You and "constitute an extraordinary lesbian love story" ODNB. Octavo. Original black and blue marbled cloth spine lettered in gilt bottom edge untrimmed. Spine cocked and sunned wear to ends and bottom corners foxing to contents: a very good copy. The D/W has benefited from some discreet and well-executed archival restoration from a highly skilled paper conservator and now shows as a clean near fine copy. Features Philip Trent a gentleman detective from the right social class. Golf is critical to the plot as Trent takes his main suspect for a round at his home course. Publisher's full maroon morocco blocked in gilt all edges gilt a little rubbed indent in backstrip.The subscriber for this volume was C.B.Fry incorrectly listed as C.P.Fry who has presented the volume to Walter R. Hammond. The calligraphic inscription on the front flyleaf reading "To Walter R. Hammond on his 24th Birthday June 19th 1927 from C.P.F with sincere regards & good wishes" The caligrapher repeating the C.P.F error. Unfortunately a 4 inch diagonal tear into the blank lower margin of this leaf has been repaired by a lunatic with sellotape with the resultant staining. However this tear is 2 1/2 inches away from the inscription. A very nice association copy with two of the great names of British cricket: C.B.Fry 1872-1956 & Walter Reginald "Wally" Hammond 1903-1965. With a newspaper cutting reporting the auction sale of Hammond's trophies & books after his death. This volume is mentioned as being the most expensive of the book lots. Weight 4.275 kg thus extra overses postage will be requested London: London & Counties Press Association, 1912 unknown

Pamela Anderson stars as the titular Barb a nightclub owner in a fictional coastal California town "the last free city" in the US which has been divided by a Second Civil War. When Barb's former lover now a freedom fighter arrives at the club asking for help Barb finds herself thrust onto the political stage. Largely panned by critics upon release the film has since attracted a cult following.<br /> <br /> Shot on location in Long Beach California and Pascagoula Mississippi.<br /> <br /> Self wrappers. The porcelain and jewelry specimens are mostly done in color. Among the arts treated in this lavish book are pottery and procelain jades and crystals bronzes and stone sculpture. Chinese specimens dominate followed by Japanese then Korean. The collector Worcester Reed Warner 1846-1929 was a trained mechanical engineer astronomer entrepreneur and business executive and a philanthropist. The company he co-founded Warner & Swazey manufactured machine tools but was best known for making astonomical telescopes. The cover is moderately soiled but still handsome with its centerpiece gilt Chinese symbol. Within the book is clean and tight. Bartlett Orr Press (Privately printed) unknown

A first edition.This impressive work reproduces the pictorial material including miniatures and drawings found in Queen Mary's Psalter which included the Old Testament cycle and calendar followed by Canticles Litanies and prayers. Queen Mary's psalter was actually produced centuries prior to her birth possibly for Isabella of France 1295-1358 Queen of England and consort of Edward II. The was was produced in England perhaps in London or East Anglia circa 1310/20 by a single artist now known only as the 'Queen Mary Master.'.Illustrated with 316 collotype plates. Collated complete. In a half morocco binding with cloth covered boards. A touch of rubbing to back strip head and tail and to joints otherwise externally excellent. Internally firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. 101125A colour linocut on paper image size 151 × 230 mm; paper size 165 × 243 mm with the edition number 85/100 title and artist's signature in ink in the lower margin. The paper is moderately foxed but this is really only noticeable in the narrow margins because of the black olive green and brown colours of the print; in excellent condition unmounted as issued. 'In the late 1930s Warner designed a series of linocuts which were cut by his daughter and printed by his son. These works were signed "The Warners"' from the introduction by Roger Butler National Gallery of Australia to the catalogue of works by Warner published by Josef Lebovic Gallery in 2009. unknown
