One of the earliest escape narratives. The author was captured near Tobruk whilst commanding 5th New Zealand Infantry Brigade and placed in Campo 12 near Florence. During his captivity he shared quarters with VC holders Neame and Carton de Wiart whose exploits he recorded in detail. Hargest was one of the highest ranking Allied escapers on WWII.
