The atlas is divided into twelve books, the first containing notes on scientific observation, the declination of the magnetic needle and corrections to the work, the second explains the divisions of Sanuto's prospective description of the world, and the other ten on Africa which was the only section he completed before his death.Livio Sanuto (c.1520-1576), was a Venetian cosmographer, mathematician and maker of terrestrial globes. Sanuto was one of the so-called Lafreri school of engravers, whose output signalled the transition between the maps of Ptolemy and the maps of Mercator and Ortelius. Livio and his brother Giulio, planned a massive and comprehensive atlas to include maps and descriptions of the whole world, which he believed would be more accurate than any previously published. Unfortunately, he died in 1576 having only completed 12 maps of Africa. The 12 maps were eventually published in 1588 by Livio's brother Giulio, under the title "Geografia Di M. Livio Sanuto..." . In the compliation of this and the other African maps, Sanuto relied on Gastaldi's 1564 map and Portuguese sea charts for the mapping of the coasts and for information about the interior, used accounts by Duarte Barbosa and João de Barros. After its publication in 1588, this work was copied by other leading map makers for nearly a century afterwards.Seas are decorated with contemporary sailing vessels and monsters.Etching with engraving, some expert repairs at the central folds and at worm holes along the upper and lower edge, otherwise in good condition. Cohen, prominent San Francisco lawyer, book collector, and leader of the Jewish community, was unjustly accused of embezzling funds which belonged to creditors of the firm of Adams & Co. , a banking house which had recently defaulted. The case involved transactions with the California Steam Navigation Company. In 1862 the case was dismissed and Cohen, who became chief counsel to the Central Pacific Railroad, was vindicated. His lawyer, Trenor W. Park, had moved from his native Vermont to California in 1852, where he was counsel to the Vigilance Committee and became involved with Fremont in the Mariposa Mine; Stanly was a North Carolina Congressman who had moved to San Francisco in the 1850's. It shows soundings, anchorage's, channels, shoals, navigational sightings. Engraved by Petit, engraver for the Depot Générale de la marine. To the left insets with coastal profiles.The main source for the chart's topography and place names is Vincente Tofiño de San Miguel's 1788 Carta esferica de las Islas de los Azores o Terceras, whose detail appears for the most part to be identical to this. A bank between the islands of Tercera and St. Michael has been added, as well as a small island southeast of the Formigues islands spotted by French mariners in 1788. This chart employs rhumb lines where the Tofiño uses latitude & longitude lines. The most significant visual difference between the Tofiño and the Depot are the latter chart's nine beautifully engraved coastal views. These all are far superior to those found on the 1755 Bellin, and show the benefit of more recent survey.A beautiful chart in fine condition.

Very Good German Original autograph letters signed, concert programs and one ticket of Bruno Walter and Jose Iturbi in 23 September 1932 by Anita Tiedcke, letters by and to Anita Tiedcke, Muhiddin Erel and Suna and Sevim Erels. Includes 54 concert programs, booklets and leaflets which some of them are handwritten, typewritten and mostly original prints. Some programs contains Anita Tiedcke's violin parts, early ones in Berlin (1930s), and later period ones in Istanbul. Especially typescript Istanbul programs (such as Aysegül Sarica's ones) are extremely rare and very important collection on Turkish history of classical music. One special designed hand written and drawn concert program titled "In Mozart Reich - Weihnachts Konzert gespielt von Nannerl u. Wolfgang Mozart. 24 autograph letters from and to all family members. Letters belong to Anita Tiedcke, are especially important for which include legal correspondences about Anita Tiedcke's conversion to Islam with her musician identity and musical history. Anita Tiedcke changed her name as 'Emine Erel' after conversion to Islam and marriage. Suna and Sevim Erels' letters also talk about music mostly. They are written in German usually, but some of them are in Turkish. Also the collection contains some book lists, catalogues. Anita Tiedcke completed her musical education at the Conservatory of Hamburg with the violonist Erika Besserer. After her marriage to Muhiddin Erel, she continued her musical studies in Istanbul and worked as an instructor at the Municipal Conservatory. In 1945, she was appointed as the mayor of the Istanbul Municipal Symphony Orchestra. The couple had two daughters, Suna and Sevin. Suna Erel was not content with the conservatory, but she also graduated from the Münch Hochschule für Musik Academy. Professor Suna Erel, who worked at Mimar Sinan University for many years, retired 8 years ago. For his achievements, the German government awarded Suna Erel the Beethoven medal. Muhiddin Erel was a Turkish professor and doctor. He was the founder of Ege University Medicine Faculty in 1955. Extremely rare and fine collection.

Written entirely by 'Monty' himself (in pencil, as so many of his official communications were composed), this characteristically straightforward (and often politically outspoken) account covers boyhood, early service with the Warwickshires, WWII and beyond (notably, about a third of the work covers his post-war career as CIGS and after). For technical military detail we look to the author's other works; here we find the simple account of a 'soldier who kept the faith'. A great read from one of the unforgettable leaders of his times.
