Very good/none used original stapled illustrated wraps not paginated but appears to have 55 pages. It is folded vertically in half as to fit into a shirt or suite pocket. The exterior fold line is lightly sunned. Interior is clean no marks staples are not rusted binding firm. Slight rubbing to wraps no chips or tears corners are lightly rubbed. most if not all routes show a map. The brochure unfolded is 10 inch tall X 7 3/4 inch wide. Stephen Long was one of the most prolific explorers of the early 1800s. This volume describes two expeditions: one in 1817 up the Mississippi River to the Falls of St. Anthony; and a second in 1823 westward from Philadelphia to the Red River of the North down the Red and east along the old Canadian canoe route the Great Lakes and portions of the Erie Canal. Long's journals are especially valuable for their firsthand observations of the Midwest and its people in the early 1800s with references to many Indian peoples including the Assiniboine Dakota Iroquois Menominee Ojibway Osage Ottawa Potawatomi Sauk Winnebago and Yanktonai. The Morgan brothers' parents emigrated from Wales in 1842 first settling in Pittsburgh before arriving in Cleveland in 1854. Located originally on Superior Street the W. J. Morgan & Company produced broadsheets trade cards pamphlets blotters postcards and posters to advertise local businesses.
