There were contributions in each heavily illustrated issue by some of the finest illustrators and writers of the time. This issue includes work by Okamoto Kiichi Kawakami Shirô Katsuyama Shigeru Iwaoka Tomoe Ota Saburo and many others. THE WEEKLY. contains an eclectic selection of poems biographies political and natural historical articles as well as brief notices and excerpts from other publications. The magazine's young and ambitious editor James Watters died during the yellow fever epidemic and consequently THE WEEKLY. ceased publication between August 1798 and February 1799 at which point Ezekiel Forman dragged publication on through June. The present volume contains numbers 20 Vol. II and 31-39 Vol. III as well as an incomplete copy of number 19 Vol. II. A nice run of this short-lived early American periodical. Quarto bound in full green morocco by Asprey with gilt titles and tooling to the spine raised gilt bands double gilt ruling to the front and rear panels gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles marbled endpapers all edges gilt profusely illustrated with photographs and architectural drawings. In fine condition. A superior example of this important architectural work. American architect Cliff May was named by Life Magazine as the "dean of modern ranch house architects." The present volume evaluates his 25 years of work designing and building ranch houses in all parts of the West much of the United States and abroad. In addition to numerous commercial buildings May designed over 1000 custom private residences. In a 1936 interview he noted: "The early Californians had the right idea. They built for the seclusion and comfort of their families for the enjoyment of relaxation in their homes. We want to perpetuate these ideas of home building." Two complete years of this weekly from 29 October 1803 through 19 October 1805 bound together: Volume II no. 1-52; Volume III no. 1-52. Folio. Pp. vi208;vi208. Text is printed in triple columns. Each volume is preceded by an index arranged according to the style of the piece essay history useful poetry etc. There are two title-pages for Volume III; one is bound at the beginning of Volume II and the other is in its proper place. The title-page for Volume II is lacking. Paper quality varies throughout. Text leaves are age-browned and occasionally lightly soiled and/or foxed mostly light to moderate but in a few instances it is heavy with a few dog-eared corners and occasional edgewear. Volume II no. 41 p. 163-4 has some loss at the bottom fore-corner resulting in a loss of text to the last few lines in one column. Bookblock is splitting with remnants of the backstrip; but the boards are missing. The June 16 1804 issue third page p.135 second column. "Domestick" mentions that Captain Lewis was in Pittsburg "accompanied by twenty Indian chiefs." There are a couple of tohter references to the L&C expedition. unknown books

Laid in is a printed exhibition schedule that began in Milan Italy and ended in Munich Germany. Illustrated throughout in color and black & white. 7 3/4†x 7 7/8†staplebound unpaginated. About fine condition with just a hint of handling to the covers in printed wrappers. Hugh Hefner was an avid book and art collector movie aficionado and print lover. The first issue of Playboy was October 1 1953 with Marilyn Monroe as the first centerfold and its final printed issue was released on March 17 2020 with the magazine now available online. The magazine played an important part in the so-called ‘sexual revolution’ and still remains one of the most recognizable brands in the world. Notable for its nude and semi-nude centerfolds the magazine also published a wide variety of short stories and serializations by such significant writers as Arthur C. Clarke Ian Fleming Vladamir Nabokov Ray Bradbury Saul Bellow P.G. Wodehouse Chuck Palahniuk Roald Dahl Haruki Murakami and Margaret Atwood. Shôwa 7 to 12 1932-37 51 assorted issues of this little series of poetry and print pamphlets by Fujita published in Tôkyô by one Tomita Hikaru under the publishing house name of SHIN MYÔJÔ. It would seem that Fujita was the only contributor. The front and rear covers are "kikai-zuri" machine printed woodcuts the contents have some intext illustrations. The sizes range from 19.9 x 14.7 cm to 22 x 15 cm. There are 2 issues from 1932 6 from 1933 11 from 1934 11 from 1935 11 from 1936 and 10 from 1937. Brooding gloomy aesthetic. Very interesting example of the sort of creative effort even amateurs were capable of in the 30s and how conversant they were with trends in world art. The pamphlets are in Japanese but often subtitled in German. As one might expect this ephemeral production is vanishingly rare. I can find no trace of it in any institution.
