Light edgewear to top corner of boards.; 2002 Reprint of 1992 Edition; Oxford Historical Monographs; 0.8 x 9.52 x 6.4 Inches; 248 pages; This is a study of the books of Salisbury Cathedral and their scribes and readers in the late eleventh and early twelfth centuries. These manuscripts form the largest collection of manuscripts to have survived from any English center in the period following the Norman Conquest and they bear witness to the energetic scribal and scholarly activities of a community of intelligent and able men. Webber traces the interests and activities of the canons of Salisbury Cathedral from the evidence of their books. She reveals to us a lively Anglo-Norman center of scholarship and religious devotion. 1985006656Berkeley CA: Shambhala 1985. Translated & Annotated by Alex Wayman 4to size horizontal orange clothbound hardcover with dust jacket; 123 pages From dust jacket: "This is the first English translation of one of the most revered and often-used tantric texts in Tibetan Buddhism. While consisting of only 160 verses and some mantra sentences the work condenses an enormous tantric lore so much that it garnered exalted mention in the Vimalaprabha - the great commentary on the Kalackra - and is cited a number times in the celebrated tantrist Naropa's Hevajratantra commentary. The English translation is set alongside the complete original Sanskrit with its Tibetan translation." The book has a slightly cocked spine which will likely correct under the weight of a heavy book. There is a slight curl to the bottom corner of the last five or so pages. Jacket has light wear and a deep scratch on front. . Cloth. Good/Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Shambhala Hardcover

1945004838Boston: Little Brown & Co. 1945. Book Club First Edition Thus. . Hardcover. Near Fine/Good Plus to Very Good. Waugh's signature work -- the story of the rich and damned Marchmain family as told by Captain Charles Ryder revisiting the family's home Brideshead during the war years. It is a story of the stress that religious faith can put on different personalities within a family as it confronts love and divorce. After publication in England in 1945 the first edition published in the U.S. was Little Brown's Bookclub edition also in 1945. The Little Brown trade edition was not issued until 1946 resulting in the unusual occurence of the bookclub edition being the true first U.S. edition. This copy in red cloth-covered boards with black lettering shows only lighlty-bumped upper corner and spine ends and slightly soiled text edges o/w clean and unmarked tight and square. The dustjacket with a brown spine and front panel and a cream back panel containing "critical comments" from five earlier Waugh novels taken from an Edmund Wilson "New Yorker" article shows wear at the corners and spine ends with a one-inch tear and chipping at the top of the spine chipping at the upper corners and tiny tears and creasing along the bottom edge. The dj's back panel is somewhat soiled. That said the dj is 98% whole with no missing design or printed matter. Overall this is a collectable copy of the true First American edition of what many consider Waugh's master work.

Little Brown & Co. hardcover
