Both boards with ornamental gilt frames, gilt stars, gilt crown at the top, gilt ship at the bottom and gilt hearts to the centres, with the intials ""E.E."" (front board) and ""M.C.H"") (back board) respectively in the middle and the year ""1835"" underneath. Richly gilt spine with four raised bands. Title-label to spine rwmoved and spine-gilding quite worn. All edges chiseled and gilt. A bit of wear to capitals. A very fine and clean copy. Handwritten ancestral notes (Erichsen family - presumably the ""E.E"" from the front board) in German to back free end-paper, beginning with Johan Christian Friedrich Erichsen, born in 1837 and ending with Anders Bygdall, born in 1897. Gilt title and five raised bands to spine. Gilt line- and floral borders to boards and inner dentelles. The inner dentelles consist of two stamps of which one is known from a signed Derome binding made for Louis XVI. Edges of boards and all edges gilt. Endpapers in pink moiré. (Presumably by Derome.). Gilt label (""Renouard Lainé"") to pasted down front endpaper. Internally clean. (24),600,CCXL pp.

Scratches to front board. Title-page repaired at margin (with very minor loss to ab. two letters on both recto and verso). Folio VIII and first leaf of index repaired at margin with early 16th century printed paper (no loss). Title-page and index-leaf with fairly heavy dampstaining, otherwise mostly faint dampstaining. Large beautiful woodcut printer's device and many beautiful woodcut initials throughout (the first depicting Adam and Eve).
(Paris, Henricus Stephanus, 1513). Folio. Bound in a nice 18th century brown half calf with six raised bands to richly gilt spine. Corners slightly bumped and capitals worn, especially the lower one, where the capital band is showing and has loosened a bit. Inner hinge slightly weak. Front free end-paper with 18th century ink-annotation (title, year, etc.). A very light damp stain top the last portion of leaves, a bit heavier to the last two leaves. Otherwise internally very nice and clean. All in all a very nice copy, with only very light scattered brownspotting. Beautifully printed in two columns and in red and black throughout. Pp. 233-294.
