First edition and a rare autographed copy of these official travel memoirs of Switzerland by an Iranian politician from the liberal party in the Pahlavi period, including attractive impressions and descriptions of European culture. Sadeq Rezazadeh Shafaq was one of the activists of the Qajar dynasty and Ph.D. graduate of the University of Berlin who taught the history of Persian literature as well as was a journalist, poet, and politician. Only one copy in OCLC: 949522859 (Bogaziçi University Library). An extremely rare autographed copy.

First edition of this scarce Protestant missionary imprint of which we have traced only one other copy issued for the use of Westerners proselytizing in Yangzhou and across Jiangsu province. The text includes a corresponding English-language index of first lines. This copy was owned by Sarah Fanny Rossier later Clarke d.1883 a missionary with the China Inland Mission from the mid-1870s and has her signature on the title page. She was the organization's first Swiss member. In 1880 she relocated to Guizhou becoming the first Western woman to live in the province. Copies were issued bound in wrappers or in the case of the other known example our stock number 187497 in cloth. Duodecimo. Original blue wrappers xianzhuang stitching. Rares rousseurs. Bon état. Format in4°(25x20).L'auteur, converti en 1731 sur le tombeau du diacre, réunit et publia des pièces attestant que ce dernier était un thaumaturge. Ce qui entraîna la célèbre affaire des Convulsionnaires de Saint-Médard, dont s'empara la querelle janséniste. En 1732 Carré de Montgeron, clandestinement entreprend la rédaction de l'ouvrage, qui prendra plus de 10 ans et lui coûtera sa liberté quelques heures après avoir offert le premier exemplaire au Roi et au duc d'Orléans, il est arrêté et incarcéré par lettre de cachet à la Bastille où il restera jusqu'à la fin de sa vie. La totalité de la première édition du texte, soit 5000 exemplaires, est brûlée dans les fossés de la Bastille; mais prudent Carré de Montgeron en avait fait imprimer conjointement un autre tirage à Utrecht. Ne renonçant pas, il fera publier par la suite les deuxième et troisième volumes en 1741 et 1747. Il s'éteindra à Valence, au bout de 17 ans de captivité, et sera enterré dans le cimetière des pauvres.

Malebranche est surtout connu pour ses doctrines de la Vision des idées en Dieu et de l'occasionnalisme qui lui permettent de démontrer le rôle actif de Dieu dans chaque aspect du monde ainsi que l'entière dépendance de l'âme vis-à-vis de Dieu. Il est qualifié de « plus grand métaphysicien que la France ait jamais eu » par le philosophe catholique Étienne Gilson.

Extremely rare first edition of this unusual travel and military account of Algeria by Ali Riza Pasha (?-1876), which is inspired by his father's book with the same title, published in 1833 by Imprimerie Goetschy publishing house in Paris. Ali Riza Pasha's father (Hamdan Efendi) was an Ottoman scholar who wrote his book in Arabic during the French occupation years, with contributions from Hassuna Dayi of Tripoli, who was the last Dey [i.e. a kind of administrator of Turkish origin] of the Deylik of Algiers [i.e. The Regency of Algiers was a state in North Africa lasting from 1516 to 1830 until it was occupied by the French]. Ali Riza Pasha also wrote this presented book, which is also in Arabic with the same name, by taking advantage of his father's work and other French history books as well. This book includes a first-hand and eyewitness account of historically important events in Algeria, soon after the French occupation, which took place between 1830 and 1903, printed in Istanbul as translated by Ali Sevki. Ali Riza Pasha, a former governor of Bursa city (Hüdavendigâr), was the son of Hamdan Hodja (1773-1842), a wealthy man and one of the leading scholars and statesmen of Algeria during the French occupation.
