An anonymous tract discussing the increasingly convoluted distinctions between the factions of 'high-church' and 'low-church' emerging within the Church of England during the early eighteenth century period. The author notes that 'some very discerning Men suspect a Snake in the Grass and that all this Noise about High and Low-Church whatever was the Original of it is now improv'd into a mere State Faction and signifies no more than Whig and Tory'. A scarce pirated edition of an anonymous work Copac records just two copies; no date bur Copac suggest 1710; pp.18 158 2 - contents 2- publisher's catalogue. A fine early nineteenth century binding in full straight-grained black morocco elaborately decorated in gilt and blind to the boards and spine; all edges gilt; pink marbled end papers. Binding very good with a little rubbing to extremities and joints. Contents generally very good; title page laid down worn and torn with loss approximately 20% missing affecting a few words of the title a few pages close-trimmed to fore-edge or running title. Inscriptions to front blank stating book was published in 1558! There should possibly be a frontispiece plate though no present in this copy. A good/very good copy.
