A few old ink marks. Old ink name "John Baxter" top of the title page. <br /> <br /> A brief search on the internet provided no information on the Charlotte and Camden Railroad. However most likely the name of "Camden" was replaced with "South Carolina" to become the Charlotte South Carolina Railroad Company. Construction began on the rail route from Charlotte to Columbia South Carolina in 1847 the year after this report. The Charlotte South Carolina Railroad began in 1852 and existed until 1869 when it was absorbed by Charlotte Columbia and Augusta Railroad. The line ran from Charlotte North Carolina to Columbia South Carolina and was the first carrier to serve Mecklenburg County North Carolina. First Edition Hardcover with original half legal calf over marbled boards. 403 pages. Measures 6" x 9.5". Includes section on manufacturing and mining companies insurance banks claims towns schools and cities and how the Acts passed effect each. Also includes Virginia Bill of Rights at the back of the text along with an extensive index dealing mainly with tax. There is also an Act to suppress "Gambling by Negroes and White Persons together" which may have been an early manifestation of Separate but Equal. During the great age of expansion there is also abundant information on navigation companies steamship companies railroads and marine railways. Front board is cracked at gutter but still attached. Foxing on pages but cover is clean. All pages attached and textblock is tight. In very good condition. unknown
