Lewisburg University conferred on him a Doctor of Philosophy degree, and Princeton a Doctor of Laws degree. In 12° (13,6x7,5 cm); 82 pp. Bella legatura coeva in pieno cartoncino foderato da bellissima carta coeva arancione a motivi floreali in bianco. Prima edizione di questo manualetto che raccoglie le regole e l'origine della Congregazione dei Centurati, cioè di coloro che venerano la reliquia della Sanat Cintola conservata nel Duomo di Prato. Si tratta di una cintura di lana di color verde, ricamata con alcuni fili d'oro, che la tradizione vuole che appartenesse alla Vergine Maria, che la diede a San Tommaso come prova della sua Assunzione in cielo. La leggenda narra che il canonico, chierico secolare, Giovanni di ser Landetto da Pistoia, detto Musciattino abbia tentato di impadronirsi della reliquia della Sacra Cintola, per portarla nella propria città, il 28 luglio 1312. Quando però uscì da Prato, si perse nella nebbia che avvolgeva la campagna circostante e, senza rendersene conto, tornò al punto di partenza. Credendo di essere giunto a Pistoia, gridò alle porte della città: "Aprite, aprite Pistoiesi: ho la Cintola de' Pratesi!".<BR>Buono stato di conservazione di quest'opera assai rara, nessun esemplare censito in ICCU.

Il libro di Gian Antonio Gili è idealmente rivolto a tre gruppi di lettori: gli appassionati di ex voto; coloro che considerano l'ex voto come un importante patrimonio della tradizione locale; infine gli studiosi e ricercatori. Ambizione del libro è contribuire allo sviluppo scientifico degli studi in materia, sia mettendo in discussione la lettura tradizionale dell'ex voto, sia favorendo il passaggio da una prospettiva descrittiva a una prospettiva di ricerca.
