Ames worked with the YMCA in varying positions both in the US and abroad including acting as YMCA director with American troops in France during WWI helping establish a YMCA branch in Russia and serving as dean of George Williams College in Chicago run by the YMCA all while making time to travel the world before retiring to a family farm near Brooklyn Wisconsin. His graduating thesis at YMCA College was titled The Cafeteria an Aid to Welfare Work.<br /> <br /> Dedicatee Bernard Rosen similarly worked in education teaching for 25 years at American University's school of public affairs after a federal career in administrative affairs.
