Spine with raised bands a broad foliate gilt roll on each band second and fourth compartments gilt-lettered within rest with gilt frames. Gilt inner dentelles and board edges. Red and white silk head bands. Marbled endpapers in a stone pattern. All edges gilt.<br>Â Â Â Â Provenance: Presentation inscription on front fly-leaves: Preston S. and Francis M. A little toned some scattered foxing. Rubbed and a little worn foot of spine defective leather peeling. This edition of the bible in Welsh here with prayerbook and psalms was issued by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge under the editorship of Moses Williams. The first sheets were finished by November 1715 although the whole was not published until May 1718; some printings as with the Psalms here bear a printed date of 1717. This copy also contains an Apocrypha not found in all copies and a scripture index not called for by ESTC an issue without both of these was also available for nonconformists. This edition also contains the two maps of the Holy Land which per Darlow and Moule were only included in 4000 of the 10000 copies produced ‘perhaps the subscribers’ copies’.
