The "Z" in "OZ" on cover art is light green & book is 1 3/8" thick though lack of Handy Mandy on spine blank endpapers suggest later printing. Cloth is firm and remarkably clean though somewhat worn. Hiarline crack on front hinge does not seem to affect cover strength. Book slightly shaken. The blue-gray spine is faded. Extremites have some shelfwear with corners slightly bumped. Head and foot of spine are crimped. The B&W plates remain crisp and bright without foxing. No dust jacket. Ruth Adler kept the staff of The New York Times informed about its own milestones and behind-the-scenes adventures and shaped the legends and lore of The Times for other journalists and students for 33 years as editor of the newspaper's in-house journal Times Talk. Behind every news story there is an untold -- or rarely told -- tale of the reporter's personal experience: the hazards of covering a war or a riot the grind of the campaign trail a correspondent's travails with foul weather bad food crazy hours unworkable communications and implausible expense accounts.
