Cohn immigrated to the U.S. in 1941 and returned to Europe Switzerland in 1974. She writes in the introductory letter to another volume: "T.C.I. germinated in my experience of the Nazi holocaust and its apathetic surroundings. I longed as a student of psychoanalysis for therapeutic ways which would not limit progress in awareness and communication to patients and some eager students but would spread to the population at large - so 'it would never happen again.'
