196019939Cleveland: The Press of Western Reserve University. Very Good- in Very Good dj. c.1960. First Edition. Hardcover. NOISBN . light dampstain to both front and rear covers several corners bumped and lightly frayed; jacket shows shallow chipping at edges slight fading along spine and left edge of front panel minor paper loss at spine ends. B&W plates INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the author: "To Ann sic Bancroft / In appreciation of your / Magnificent performance / in The Miracle Worker / Ruth E. Binder / 1-11-61." The book is described as "the first really comprehensive study of the development of training for the deaf." The date of the inscription -- even if it was meant to be 1962 instead of 1961 in that way that we all sometimes forget that the New Year has begun when writing dates in early January -- indicates that it refers to Bancroft's performance in the original Broadway production of "The Miracle Worker" which ran from October 1959 through July 1961 and for which she had received a Tony Award. The movie version wasn't released until July 1962. Signed by Author . The Press of Western Reserve University hardcover books
