3017ALS. 4pg. 5 ½†x 7â€. December 5 1948. Scotia. New York. A lengthy autograph letter signed “Saul†to Dr. Willis R. Whitney: “…Like you I was greatly impressed by Mr. Wilson’s talk. I wish that his ideas could be more widely propagandized and at times I feel like Moses in my inability to go out and preach the gospel of brotherhood to all men What a mixed metaphor!. Have just received through the library a copy of a book entitled ‘Half hours with great scientists the story of physics’ which seems to be just the book for the purpose you have in mind. I sent for the book because the author Dr. C.G. Fraser was one of my early students when I was still with the University at Toronto…’Every part’ he writes ‘of the vast edifice of science is necessarily the work of some human being and most of us become more interest in the building and are able to understand and appreciate it better when we know who were the architects and the builders and when how and why they did their work. The story of science is a noble epic of the struggle of man from ignorance toward knowledge and wisdom and toward the mastery of nature and of himself…I would include Edison and JJT along with Galileo and all the others…â€. The letter is in fine condition. unknown books
