2013174208Philadelphia: Art Book Annex 2013. Softcover. VG. Blue-green illustrated wraps with cream lettering 131 pp richly illustrated in bw and color. "PISSARRO'S PLACES tells his story in a fresh and different way-exploring the places he painted and his "sensations" as he translated them into brushstrokes on his canvas. In his landscapes you almost feel the sun and the wind in the trees. In his city paintings you sense the hustle and bustle of traffic. This was his genius. Rather than settling for the familiar Pissarro courageously put himself into new situations in pursuit of different and exciting motifs. With PISSARRO'S PLACES you see those places through his eyes. All the paintings featured in the book are located in public museums and are accessible to the public. Ann Saul has traveled to all the places Pissarro painted except Venezuela during her 20 years of research. A professional writer Ann was formerly a Guide at the Philadelphia Museum of Art a Docent at Terra Foundation Museum of American Art Chicago no longer open and a Volunteer at the Art Institute of Chicago. She writes a blog about Pissarro at artbookannex.com. PISSARRO'S PLACES includes: Foreword by Joachim Pissarro great grandson of Camille Pissarro; 35 color reproductions of Pissarro's paintings; Pissarro family photographs; 46 color photographs of Pissarro's sites today; 29 historic French postcards" -website. 1950718021950. STEINBERG Saul. STEINBERG Saul. PORTRAITS. Sixteen pages numbered 81-96 stapled twice at the center extracted from a FLAIR magazine March 1950. 10 by 6 3/4 in. Each page is a black and white photograph representing a portrait comprised of assemblage and drawing by Steinberg. The portraits are witty and surprising due to Steinberg's use of common materials chairs and footstools boxes scissors and a pocket knife etc. which are transformed by a few deft lines into people cats and even a bird. For instance a single flower in a vase upon a small table draped with a cloth becomes with only a few lines indicating facial features drawn on the vase and with the addition of a string of pearls at the bottom of the vase and a beaded "belt" around the lace edge of the tablecloth a portrait of a lady in a flowered hat. The outer wrappers are moderately soiled and just starting at the head. The fore-edge of the back wrapper which is 1/4" wider than the other leaves has couple of nicks and shows some edgewear. Nonetheless it is very good. unknown books
