The assigned patent application serial number was 290167 and it was received by the US Patent Office USPTO on November 6 1888. The patent was issued on May 21 1889 and given design patent number 19110 with a term of 14 years. We have included a printout of the patent text for reference.

NOTE: This is one of a collection of original patent art recently received. If you are interested in knowing about additional items please let us know. Hand-drawn patent drawings while critical to the patent process don't often appear for sale. With only the inventor attorney and USPTO the likely recipients few were made and after expiring many were discarded.

This example is a patent for a hammock with a fine weave and nice tassels down the ends. I. E. Palmer was a Middleton CT manufacturer/dealer in hammocks - at least one firm catalog exists from 1907.

DESIGN PATENTS: what they are how long they last and records management

Design patents "protect the way an article looks." Historically important they verify new design innovations document changing cultural tastes and establish valuable competitive business advantages. New patents preserve for the stated term the inventor's sole ownership and use of the design.

The US Patent Office USPTO calls "the drawing disclosure . the most important element of the application. As the drawing or photograph constitutes the entire visual disclosure of the claim it is of utmost importance that the drawing or photograph be clear and complete that nothing regarding the design sought to be patented is left to conjecture"

To obtain a Design patent inventors submit an original black pen and ink drawing and a description of the innovation to the USPTO typically with the assistance of a patent lawyer familiar with the process. The USPTO assigns the new application a "serial number" and "application date." USPTO patent examiners then vet the application to ensure it is unique and not already protected often with additional communication between the USPTO the inventor and their legal representation. This process can take months if not years. Only if determined to be a new invention will the USPTO issue the inventor a Design Patent number and patent date.

During the active term of the design patent the USPTO retains the inventor's application and drawings for use in patent dispute cases and other inquiries. After the term of the patent the USPTO may discard or return the materials if no longer relevant to their core mission. Today most issued patents are digitized for preservation. Older paper records and patent models have been periodically discarded most often with little fanfare and to address space or fiscal management issues. Self-published unknown books

187261239Washington DC: GPO 1872. First edition. 8vo. 318 pp. The report deals with immigration to western public lands expansion of railroads Native American issues the Geological survey etc. Judge Isaac Parker's copy with his signature on the title page; Parker 1838-1896 remembered as the "hanging judge" oversaw 13940 cases on his docket as the presiding U.S. District Judge on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas in Fort Smith Arkansas between 1875 and 1895 overseeing much of the Indian Territory in addition to portions of Arkansas. Of this number 9454 persons about 70 per cent of those tried by him were either convicted by a jury or entered pleas of guilty. 344 were tried to capital offenses and 151 convicted; of those 76 were executed one was killed while attempting to escape four died in jail two were pardoned and the remaining 68 all given sentenced to death by Parker had their sentences commuted by the President to long terms in prison. "Cruel they have said I am but they forget the utterly hardened character of the men I dealt with. They forget that in my court jurisdiction alone sixty-five deputy marshals were murdered in the discharge of their duty. Wilson who was connected with the Starr gang was one of the men whom I sentenced to death. It did not appear to me to be an act of cruelty to sentence that fellow to hand by the neck until he was dead . the trouble is with the bench and behind it the maudlin sentimentality that forgets and condones a crime upon which the blood stains have dried. The bench is indifferent and careless. The avarice which is the curse of this age has so poisoned the people that civil law for the protection of property concerns it more than the criminal law which protects life. 'Which is of greater value your house or your life!" asks the bench and the people by their attitude in specific instances answers: 'My house.' Small wonder that the bench comes to take the same view and adjudges accordingly" from an 1896 interview with Ada Patterson at the Fort Smith National Historic Site webpage. Short fiction and sketches by a Russian Jewish writer first published in Russia between 1875 and 1900. "The Dead Town" is a macabre story about a town inhabited by the walking dead -- the horror keeps its edge even after the symbolism is accounted for. In "Bontzye Shweig" a poor uncomplaining man dies and goes to heaven where he is welcomed admiringly surprising the man and in the end the reader who may sense a whiff of the cabalistic in what might have been dismissed as a whitewashing account of a nebbish who should have done some more complaining. But the judge of the heavenly court tells him "You yourself knew nothing of your hidden power. In the other world your silence was not understood but that is the world of delusion; in the world of truth you will receive your reward." The reward he asks for is a hot roll with butter every day for breakfast. Other stories retell legends from the Talmud and other sources. Analyse de plusieurs ouvrages dont un livre qualifiÈ de rare: 'Le dÈtail de la France' part Boisguilbert" INED. Pinto admired the Physiocrats but disagreed with them. "Pinto's TraitÈ is written from a national as well as an international perspective. Pinto's experience as a merchant and financier in the Republic along with his knowledge of French and English economic thought laid the foundations for his European economic model. Pinto wanted above all to convince his readers of hte soundness of the British system of public debt. With the adoption of improvements in the redemption policy proposed in his book the system would achieve a high degree of perfection. In France the physiocratic opinions of the elder Mirabeau in particular required Pinto to respond and in England the otherwise admiring Hume was in disagreement. By means of a critical discussion of the work of these and other authors Pinto propagated a financial policy that he thought would benefit both the State and the individual" I.J.A.
