Bound in a half crushed morocco with cloth boards.This work from English philosophical and historical writer Isaac Taylor explores the approach to home education for children. With discussions of the differences between public and private education the conditions required for home education the impact of family order and the three periods of development proposed by Taylor. Bookplate of Egerton Parker to the front pastedown. Parker was a teacher and house master at Hereford Cathedral School for over twenty years. Generally known as Ege Parker he is fondly remembered for his enthusiasm and knowledge of history. In a half crushed morocco binding with cloth boards. Externally smart with rubbing to the extremities and a couple damp marks to the cloth. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with scattered spots to the endpapers. The importance of these designs and Godey's architectural material in general is discussed in George Hersey's article "Godey's Choice" in the JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF ARCHITECTURAL HISTORIANS Oct. 1959 pp.104-11. Heard was with general Sibley in his campaign against the Sioux. It appears he was stationed in Minnesota for 12 years and witnessed the removal of the Sioux from their ancient homelands to reservations along the Minnesota River. He spent considerable time collecting information from the Indians about what he referred to as massacres and outrages against the whites. This work reflects the output of those efforts. A small octavo of 7 1/2 by 4 7/8 inches with front hinge cracked but holding; the lower edge of the rear board has two shallow gouges through the cloth and board; There is a prior owner's name and address stamped and the same owner's name in pencil on the first free end page; the cloth at the ends of the spine is worn and rubbed; and a faint dampness stain to the lower fore edge of the text block from the title page to page 319. There are a few red pencil marks and under linings scattered within the text. 354 pages of text followed by two page of ads by the publisher. Illustrated with a frontispiece General Sibley in uniform from an engraving and 19 black and white plates from engravings and 23 vignettes.
