In the last years of his life Jacob Mann 1888-1940 embarked on the study of one of the most difficult branches of Hebrew literature the Midrashim. In his work "The Bible as read and preached in the Old Synagogue" he tried to establish the dependence of the Midrashim from the chapters of the Torah and from the haftarot which were read on the Sabbath on cycles of three and one-half years respectively. The first volume of the book was published in 1940. Material left by Mann for the second volume was prepared for publication by Isaiah Sonne; after the latter's death the work was continued by Victor Reichert; it appeared in 1966. Text in English and Hebrew. Slight wear to covers. Inscriptions from previous owners on front free endpapers. Overall in good condition. Volume I was owned by Morton M. Applebaum a prominent Reform rabbi who served on the Executive Board of the Central Conference of American Rabbis and was on Hebrew Union College's Board of Governors. By April news was just reaching the English colonies. This sermon was delivered from Daniel 2:20-21 and reads in part "we no longer hear ye alarm of war but hope for ye establishment of peace on very advantageous terms to us who dwell in this land. Let us consider yt it is God who hath given us this quietness." It is not signed but Dunster's name is penciled on the wrapper and the handwriting matches Dunster manuscripts held at Harvard University. A notation on the front cover shows that he delivered this sermon again in 1773 and 1786. Isaiah Dunster 1720-1791 was a Congregational minister at Harwich on Cape Cod from 1748 until his death in 1791. His headstone in Brewster Cemetery says of him that he was "The most beloved Pastor of the First Church in Harwich. He graduated at the University in Cambridge. In native Town was ordained Nov'r 18 1748. After a judicious pertinent and faithful discharge of related ministerial duties satisfied with Life and confident of Immortality He died Jan 18 1791 in the 71 year of his age and 43 of his Ministry." This remarkable manuscript is an extremely scarce pre-Revolutionary survival. paperback books

199881243Arlington VA: Pacific-Sierra Research Corporation 1998. Revised Edition Xerox copy. Stapled at upper left corner. Good. 1 69 pages. Printed on one side only. This is an edited version of the original June 30 1998 version. A Number of typographical corrections were made and a single substantive change was made on page 25. Dated July 13 1998. This is the preferred corrected version of The Moe Report. The U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration's Office of Secure Transportation provides safe and secure transportation of nuclear weapons and components and special nuclear materials and conducts other missions supporting the national security of the United States of America. Since 1947 the U.S. Department of Energy and its earlier agencies have moved nuclear weapons nuclear components and special nuclear materials by various commercial and government transportation modes. This panel was established in large part to examine the claim that the communication between TSD management and the special agents SAs had broken down. The panel concludes that there is a fundamental deep and long-standing lack of trust and respect between SAs and TSD management. The panel discovered that dissatisfaction is equally widespread and deeply felt across all three sections. The panel found that many managers do indeed have a negative view of the agents. The panel heard numerous instances of special agents acting in a non-professional manner with management. The panel observed evidence that the agents are correct about how they are viewed. The panel received a variety of stories to support these views. Agents believe that many managers do not deserve their respect. More than half of special agents interviewed by the panel expressed negative attitudes toward managers. Edited Version with a number of typographical correction and a single substantive change p. 25.
