"6359 State Capitol Sacramento Cal." in negative at lower edge. Isaiah West Taber 1830-1912 bounced between the east and west coasts as a youth. After opening his first studio in Syracuse New York he returned to California where he eventually established the "Taber Gallery" at No. 12 Montgomery Street in 1871. His business was quite successful with a stock of over 30000 Western views though many were the unacknowledged works of others. When the San Francisco earthquake led to the destruction of his vast collection his business folded. This image is not at Berkeley nor on Calisphere but is similar to "The Capitol Sacramento Cal. B 2369" at Berkeleyexcept this image is taken closer to the entrance with people in the distance at the steps and provides a more powerful view. Taber unknown books

Beautiful crisp and clean edition of Thomas' History of Printing in America with tipped in page from the original and signed on colophon by editor Marcus McCorison. This is # 404 out of 1.950 copies. Book is bound in blue cloth with gilt title on spine and tan end papers. In near new condition. Pages blindingly clean and bright and naturally beautifully designed with wide margins on lovely paper. Slip cover in slightly less perfect condition with some bumps rubbing and scrapes. Slip cover has image of original cover. Printed with type from the Stinehour Press in Luneberg Vermont. Designed by Roderick D. Stinehour using Monotype Bembo and Centaur types. Frontispiece portrait of Isaiah Thomas a copperplate stipple engraved by W.R. Jones was pulled from the original plate now in the Antiquarian Society of America. Title page eagle was drawn especially for this book and is based on elements of 2 type ornaments from the Binny & Ronaldson type foundry in Philadelphia whose types Thomas used in printing this work in 1810. An original leaf from that edition is included in this edition. Text paper is Imprint made by the Monadnock Paper Company. Bound by New Hampshire Bindery in Concord.
