Original wraps bound into gorgeous full mottled calf binding with four raised bands on spine four pages of lush marbled paper both in the front and rear and exquisite dentelle work around borders of inside boards. Exotic tales of Arab world is set off throughout by Islamic ornamentation the whole effect being evocative of the perfumed harem. Soft covers with the pages cut in a variety of styles many "large paper edition" style with large margins. gilt cul-de-lamps text within elaborate gilt border full-page polychrome arabesques and ornamental filigrees and initial capital letters. The Hollande copies come with four full colour illustrations by Thomas with repeats of the arabesque designs to the verso on separate cards held in a glassine envelope. The page edges of some pages are a little darkened and the has separated to the lower half on page 160/161 still holding firmly otherwise a lovely copy. 224 pages table. 210 x 175 mm 8¼ x 7 inches. . Un bel exemplaire de cet ouvrage. Un des 100 exemplaires sur Hollande #131 sur un tirage total de 1984 exemplaires. Couvertures souples avec les pages coupées dans une variété de styles beaucoup dans le style "édition grand papier" avec de grandes marges des culs-de-lampe dorés le texte dans une bordure dorée élaborée des arabesques polychromes à pleine page des filigranes ornementaux et des lettres majuscules initiales. Les exemplaires Hollande sont accompagnés de quatre illustrations en couleurs de Thomas avec reprise des motifs d'arabesques au verso sur des cartes séparées placées dans une enveloppe en glassine. Les bords de certaines pages sont un peu assombris et l'enveloppe s'est détachée de la moitié inférieure de la page 160/161 elle tient encore fermement mais il s'agit d'un bel exemplaire. 224 pages table. 210 x 175 mm. Fascinating work that celibrates the history and glory of the French Marine and its equipages. Written and privately published in 1943 during the Nazi-occupation of France this book was not openly circulated at the time. However in 1944 the limited edition out of which this is one copy sold for 3000 Francs/copy. Magnificently illustrated with blue in-text idrawings throughout and 20 full-page aquarells protected by tissue guard. In French. Good- condition. Printed by subscription at 950 copies. Out of them 455 copies were printed "sur velin pur chiffon fililgrane Marais numerotes" printed on pure filigree chiffon vellum paper; numbered series. This copy is one of them.
