A lavish and lovely re-telling of the Grimms' classic remarkable for the obvious care and time that went into it's production as well as the skill of the artist. Each page is beautifully illustrated in ink and gouache with elaborate floral motifs fairies toads and toadstools spider-webs and of course a prince and princess -- and the handwriting is equally ornate. Original ALS & TLS surrounding the presentation of a silver “Loving Cup†to Caroline & Jacob Kamm by their employees Dec. 25 1905 for Christmas writing “We your employees take pleasure in presenting you this Loving Cub as a small token of our esteem. The flowers accompanying we trust Mrs. Kamm will accept. . .†followed by Christmas & New Year’s greetings. Of interest is the listing of all 27 Vancouver & Lewis River Transportation Co. employees in 1905. Black cloth portfolio 45cm x 34cm containing a broadside poem and 14 pencil-signed lithographic plates by New Jersey artists. Printed by Pearl Seligman on Rives Heavyweight. Minor soil with pronounced toning to the cover sheet which prints the Lowell poem from contact with the portfolio flaps; a few faint spots of foxing to the final plate George Segal; remaining contents complete and fine. Features a broadside of Lowell's poem "Fall 1961" and 14 pencil-signed lithographs by the following New Jersey artists: Richard Anuskiewicz Carmen Cicero Leo Dee Joseph Demarais John Goodyear James Kearns Jacob Landau Stefan Martin George Ortiman Pat Pickering Gregorio Prestopino Jean Schonwalter George Segal and Herbert Steinberg. According to the colophon the portfolio was issued in response to "the challenge presented to the American political system by Senator Eugene McCarthy during the presidential campaign of 1968." Though not indicated this copy from the studio of contributing artist Gregorio Prestopino; a fair number of the artists represented here including Landau Segal and the printer Pearl Seligstein were neighbors of Prestopino in the progressive planned community of Roosevelt New Jersey. In Yiddish with a Spanish title page. “German soldiers first passed through Ratne at the end of June 1941 but Nazi rule was established in the town only in July. Between the retreat of the Soviets and the arrival of German security forces and administrators locals plundered Jewish homes and businesses. Shortly after the Germans arrived they shot 27 Jews and 30 Soviet prisoners of war. Acting through the Ukrainian police they also introduced an array of anti-Jewish measures: Jews had to wear identifying armbands later yellow patches comply with a curfew hand in valuables including ritual objects and provide forced labor. It was forbidden for Jews to speak to Ukrainians. As early as July 1941 Jews from the countryside were already being relocated to Ratne. In the spring of 1942 a ghetto was set up there. After a partisan raid on Ratne in June 1942 the Germans shot more than 110 Jews along with a few Ukrainians. The Destruction of the Jewish Community. In August the Germans recruited Ukrainian peasants from Prokhid to dig pits at a nearby sand lot. On August 26 the ghetto was “liquidated†by a unit from the Gestapo outpost in Brest supported by the local German Gendarmerie post and Ukrainian auxiliary police force. Although several hundred Jews fled before they could be taken to Prokhid. Many others hid in the ghetto. Most were eventually caught and murdered as well. Between 1 300 and 1 500 Jewish men women and children were killed during this operation. A few dozen skilled laborers were left alive and employed in a workshop. Grieve who is better known to all and sundry as Hugh McDiarmid. Issued in two series between 1920 and 1922 with a single volume edition essentially just both first edition volumes bound together including their title pages distributed at the end of 1922. T. Pagination essentially the result of two sets of first edition sheets being bound together including original title pages and the ads to the rear of the Second Series. Light scuffing to the corners with a bit of stripping away of the paper some soiling and thumbing to the boards in places and some minor bumping and softening to the spine ends; internally clean fore and bottom edges untrimmed. A very good copy.<br /> <br /> An oddly produced volume edited by Hugh McDiarmid under the name of C.M. Grieve and originally issued between 1920 and 1921 to showcase the contemorary voices of Scottish poetry. Series I and Series II were later combined apparently by the simple expedient of taking all the original leftover unbound sheets and cramming them in together in a single volume binding. A charming and rather peculiar collection of carefully chosen poetry and poets. T. Foulis unknown

Slightly later gift inscription on title page. Scare account of a fishing trip made by the Yellowstone County Bar Association to Stillwater River near its confluence with the Yellowstone in 1917. The group travelled from Billings Montana and made camp on the river north of Custer National Forest. The pamphlet is illustrated with several reproductions of engaging photographs and the text provides a humorous report of the occasion. We locate one copy at the Montana Historical Society. unknown

Glue residue to endpapers of volume II else unmarked and still a Very Good set of this uncommon autobiography of "The First Lady of Yiddish Theater." Adler was known for creating leading roles in Yiddish versions of many classic plays and was the first actor to portray a Holocaust survivor in her brother Luther's 1946 Broadway production A Flag is Born.
