Of particular interest in this installment is the first published announcement of Ruth Harkness’ d. 1947 as the first person to bring a living Giant Panda out of China a female named Su Lin. Her husband William Harkness zoologist and adventurer had headed an expedition to capture Giant Pandas but died before he even entered the habitat. Ruth traveled into Wenchuang County of Sichuan Province then onto Baoxing County where she discovered the cub less then 2 kilometers from Jiajin Mountain and was later donated to the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. Hardcover with thin paper covered boards with design and lettering of cover entirely handpainted. 16mo 6 3/8" tall x 5 1/8" wide. Printed on laid paper watermarked Ingres d'Arches. Hand-set in Centaur and printed in an edition of 100 copies a labor of love completed on the last day of the year 1951. Book is enclosed in a light blue cloth covered board which folds in on itself on four sides. It has a small blue ribbon pull. This fits into a very handsome slipcase which is quarter bound light blue leather and cloth with 4 raised bands and stamped in gilt. All in Fine condition. A real gem. . The Silverado Press hardcover
