The spine Is rubbed at the edges of the spine & corners & it is written on the fly-leaf in pencil that it lacks 2 plates. One of the plates that exists in Book 2 of Tillage seems to have a piece missing & the other plate has a tear at the edge & possibly a small piece missing at the edge. There is a small amount of foxing at edges and a 1-1/2" watermark at the bottom edge of this book. Approximately 70 pages are darkened slightly near the bottom edges however it does not affect the print. ; This book has been rebound & also has new end-papers. There are 2 raised bands on the spine. The blank page after the end of the book there is this inscription "John Mill His Book Castelton 1837 - His Book". It is in four parts - Book 1. Of Vegetation Book 2 Of Tillage Book 3. Of Manures and their operation and Book 4 Of Soils. He was progressive for his time believing that diseases have physical causes and not the result of moral wrongs or spiritual influences. A rare work. By the late 18th century Brown's Elementa Medicinae 1780 had sparked intense controversy across Europe. His system proposed that all diseases stemmed from either excessive or insufficient excitability in the body a radical departure from humoral and mechanical theories. Arzt des Fürsten von Anhalt-Zerbst ernannt wurde. Er starb 28. Oct. 1792. M. war ein tüchtiger Botaniker und Zoolog; die Pflanzengattung "Moehringia" aus der Familie der Caryophylleen ist ihm zu Ehren so benannt. Ausser einer sehr grossen Zahl von Abhandlungen im Commerc. litterar. Norimbergense und in den Acta der k. k. Leopold. März 1689 zu Breslau. Er besuchte das Gymnasium in seiner Vaterstadt später in Danzig und studirte von 1711-1715 in Halle Leipzig Straßburg und Basel Medicin und Naturwissenschaften. Nachdem er sein Examen bestanden hatte hielt er sich zunächst einige Zeit in Holland auf und ließ sich nach seiner Rückkehr als praktischer Arzt in Danzig nieder. Im Jahre 1725 wurde er zum Professor der Medicin und der Naturwissenschaften an dem dortigen Gymnasium ernannt. Kulmus war Mitglied der Leopoldinischen Akademie und der Berliner Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften. Er starb am 29. Mai 1745 zu Danzig. Außer zahlreichen medicinischen Schriften schrieb er: "Elementa philosophiae naturalis" Gedani 1722 sowie verschiedene kleine naturwissenschaftliche Abhandlungen wie: "Dis. de lapidibus" Gedani 1727; "Exercitatio de Insectis" Gedani 1729 u. a. m."
