Rarissima opera, una raccolta di 24 riproduzioni di quadri di artisti moderni apparsi nei vari Saloni d'arte, circoli ed esposizioni del 1882 (Exposition internationale de Vienne, Cercle artistique et litteraire de Paris, Exposition des artistes americains de New York, Exposition nationale de Moscou, Academie Royale de Londres). Senza data ma contemporaneo. L'opera era formata da 25 planches purtroppo la planche sull'opera di Mellerie "Une vente publique au XVI siecle" risulta mancante. Le planches contengono il facsimile del disegno originale dell'opera inciso e applicato alla planche. Velina parlante presente in ogni planche. Diversi artisti divennero poi famosi come Louis Emile Adan (1839-1937) che con "Soir D'automne" vinse la medaglia per il secondo posto al Salon, Otto Baditz (1849-1936), Leon Barillot (1844-1929), Antoni Casanova Estorach (1847-1896), Frederik Hendrik Kaemmerer (1839-1902), Desire Francois Laugee (1823-1896), Fernand Lungren l'opera "Parc de New York effet de lumiere electrique sur la neige), Albert Maignan (1845-1908), Hans Makart (1840-1884), Pierre Puvis de Chavannes (1824-1898), Theodule Ribot (1823-1891), Toby Edward Rosenthal (1848-1917), Edouard Alexandre Sain (1830-1910), William Frederik Yeames (1835-1918). L’opera, il cui protagonista è un africano ridotto in schiavitù nel Suriname degli anni 1660, narra la vicenda di un amore infelice e si ispira alle esperienze dell’autrice durante un viaggio nell’allora neoacquisita colonia britannica del Suriname. È stato detto, in particolare da Virginia Woolf, che Aphra Behn fu la prima scrittrice professionista, cioè la prima donna della letteratura inglese a vivere esclusivamente dei suoi proventi. Se da un lato ciò non è del tutto vero, dall’altro Behn fu di certo la prima drammaturga professionista e uno dei primi romanzieri inglesi, a prescindere dal sesso. Anche se con tutta probabilità ne scrisse almeno uno prima, ’Oroonoko’ rimane uno dei più antichi romanzi in lingua inglese, uno dei primi scritti da una donna e occupa un posto privilegiato nella letteratura della Restaurazione inglese.
