THE BINDING IS SIGNED ON FRONT FREE ENDPAPER VERSOS. Henry Stamper (1802?-1887), master bookbinder, was an associate of Bedford, Lewis, Clarke and Morrell; indeed he may have succeeded Bedford as manager of the Lewis bindery, and his later business passed to Morrell. La fine improvvisa del suo governo fu percepita come il tramonto di una stagione fortunata per la cultura e le arti, caratterizzata da un mecenatismo di vasto e lungimirante respiro. Colto e raffinato amatore d'arte, Cosimo aveva infatti incrementato le collezioni medicee e favorito il rinnovamento dell'ambiente artistico fiorentino, anche attraverso nuove sollecitazioni stilistiche d'oltralpe. Questo spiega la ricerca da parte sua di un'opera come l'altarolo con le Storie della Vera Croce di Adam Elsheimer, raffinato pittore tedesco attivo nella prima metà del XVII secolo. L'opera, composta da piccoli dipinti su argento, era uscito dalle collezioni granducali attraverso un dono e, scomposto, era stato venduto sul mercato antiquario; oggi, grazie agli sforzi dello Stadel Museum, l'altarolo è stato ricomposto e montato all'interno di una cornice che restituisce all'opera la sua forma originale.

Carlo Scognamiglio Pasini sostiene la tesi secondo cui comprendere il pensiero di Adam Smith significa cogliere il nesso profondo che esiste tra economia ed etica, aspetti non disgiunti nell'ambito della convivenza sociale. L'egoismo di Smith non può, perciò, essere considerato un elemento disgregatore della società quanto, piuttosto, un fattore di ordine e di sviluppo. I meccanismi di mercato agiscono come una "mano invisibile" che guida l'economia nella ricerca del benessere collettivo. Un ulteriore Momento d'Oro dell'Economia suddiviso in due parti.
