A journal of the Russian embassy headed by Everard Isbrand Ides which went over land from Moscow to Peking written by the secretary of the embassy Adam Brand. The aim of the expedition was to conclude commercial agreements with the Chinese but in fact this was not incorporated. Includes a table "des chiffres de la carte" pp. 183-92 with numbers of cities and other places passed along the route indicated on the map. The map only to be found in this edition. A fine copy housed in slightly rubbed and soiled green cloth pull-off slipcase with publisher's paper label on the front gilt-stamped title and a hand-lettered label on one side. Otherwise in very good condition.<br/><br/> This detailed and lucid map of Canada is the east sheet of a larger grouping of maps by A.C. Black. It describes the area around the Gulf of St. Lawrence including Newfoundland Nova Scotia Prince Edward Island New Brunswick and the Anticosti Islands. Published circa 1854 the map was made only a few years after Nova Scotia became the first colony in British North America and in the British Empire to achieve self-governance. Notable features include the demarcation of sand banks in the Atlantic Ocean. Red lines indicate railways railways under construction and canals as per a key above the title pointing to the growing industry in this region. The map is in very good condition with some wear to the center seam. Otherwise very clean.
