St. John's Newfoundland had two fires in 1817 which were jointly named as the Great Fire of 1817. This pamphlet outlines some of the aid sent from Boston. St. John's was to experience more fires in 1819 and later in the century in 1849 and 1892. The inscribee John Comly 1773-1850 was a Quaker minister and school master.
