Some plates cut a little close and very occasional light soiling to contents. A very good copy A rare volume on lancers written in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. The author was a key instigator in the adoption of the lance by British cavalry units. De Montmorency was captured at Verdun and imprisoned for three years but was given the freedom to study both the French and Polish lancers which were world-renowned shock units. Very occasional spotting of pages and a few expert repairs to tears; otherwise Fine condition. Beautiful full-page illustrative drawings throughout. Laid in is a letter and a copy of similar but slightly different title page from the Curator of Uniforms at the National Museum of Scotland. The letter explains why the curator thinks this copy was subsequent to the copy in the National Museum because of the word "Proposed" in the title which he suggests makes corrections to the museum's copy which was also published in 1820.
