1st edition, original cloth, 8vo, x, 229 pages, Judaism and the Visual Image argues for a Jewish theology of image that, among other things, helps us re-read the creation story in Genesis 1 and to question why images of Jewish women as religious subjects appear to be doubly suppressed by the Second Commandment, when images of observant male Jews have become legitimate, even iconic, representations of Jewish holiness. Raphael further suggests that 'devout beholding' of images of the Holocaust is a corrective to post-Holocaust theologies of divine absence from suffering that are infused by a sub-theological aesthetic of the sublime. Raphael concludes by proposing that the relationship between God and Israel composes itself into a unitary dance or moving image by which each generation participates in a processive revelation that is itself the ultimate work of Jewish art. Original Cloth. 8vo. 38 pages. 25 cm. First edition. In German. Contains two fold out pages. Habakkuk: Prophet; author of the eighth in the collection of the twelve minor prophetical books. The etymology of the name of the prophet is not clear. It seems to be a loan-word representing the Assyrian 'hambakuku, ' a garden-plant, and has the appearance of being a writer's pseudonym (F. E. Peiser, 'Der Prophet Habakuk, ' in 'Mitteilungen der Vorderasiatischen Gesellschaft, ' 1903, i. 12) . ... Peiser (l. C. ) contends that Habakkuk is the pseudonym of a Judean prince held as a hostage in Nineveh, and who witnessed the attack of the Medes, in alliance with Chaldea and Babylon, in 625 B. C. But his book announces a second attack. This prince may have been the son or grandson of Manasseh. Peiser shows that Habakkuk displays remarkable familiarity with Assyrian literature, his similes indicating quotations from, and adaptations of, Assyrian mythological writings. - 1906 JE. As New English Paperback. Pbo. Mint. Cr. 8vo. (20 x 14 cm). In English. 342 p. "This book is about the Hoax that nevre ends, of the believing creationists with the naturalist evolutionist heretics, of the muslims with other peoples-of-the-book, being an apt and forceful, a fully persuasionist semantic analysis of the Old Gospel, namely, The Torah. Its contents have been at dispute the past two millenia and one-half and its provides especially the true perspective on the Adliteration Harangue, namely, the possible corruption by The Jews of the Biblical Text. We then feel justified in hoping that it shall provide the flintstone of interreligious dialogue and cooperation. It comes near te being the full expression it the Quranic Enunciation, "Why, the Torah is a full account (of God's uncountable mysteries)" (6/154). All the postulations have been thoroughly substantiated from, verified against authentic, original textual material, namely, the Torah (Old Testament). So, then, this is a full mature venture to discuss the occult and the Revealed God.".
