Includes frontispiece of Wilson as well as seven b&w illustrated plates depicting landscapes, sites and people of the region. 220x145xmm. XI+544 pages. Brown leather Hardcover with gilt lettering on spine and gilt decorations on spine and cover. Text block edges marbled. Cover slightly stained, creased and slightly scratched. Cover edges rubbed. Cover corners bumped and peeling. Rear cover upper corner bent. Spine worn. Spine front hinge cracked; rear hinge partly cracked. Spine edges peeling. Ex-libris sticker on front inner cover and first whitepage upper corner. First whitepage also partly detached. Endpapers, whitepages and few text pages slightly age stained. Plates somewhat age stained, mostly around edges but also (more lightly) on the engravings themselves (otherwise the illustrations are clearly visible and in good condition). Pages yellowing and wavy. [SUMMARY]: This extremely rare and beautifully illustrated first edition of a remarkable 19th-century travelogue memoir on the Holy Land and Middle East by a famous Scottish traveler is in good condition.
