In the original Greek with a new translation by Spencer T. Kezios Protopresbyter. From the publisher: "Orthros for Feast Days The Holy Office of Orthros when celebrated on a weekday in commemoration of a Saint or major feast day never changes. Year after year it remains the same. Thus these two volumes numbers 2 and 3 of the projected six-volume series will be a permanent edition for yearly use. Therefore they are being published in a hard cover edition cloth bound 8-1/2 by 11 inches with large easy to read print in Greek with parallel English translations. It is in the same format as the more familiar Orthros published semi-annually. From the publisher about Vol. 2: "All the Orthros services from April to June for the Weekday celebration of Feast Days. Contained are all of the dramatic changes in rubrics and hymnology mandated during the Easter to Pentecost liturgical cycle; full and complete for every year from now until the year 2025. This makes it unique because though needed it has never before been attempted. This represents literally thousands of hours of work researching and calculating all the necessary changes. There are included for example eight 8 different ways to celebrate Orthros for the Feast Day of Saints Constantine and Helen. Other services included are: Saturday of the Souls for both Meat Fare and Pentecost; Lazarus Saturday; Ascension; and Mid-Pentecost. The other Saints' Days indicated by our Archdiocese for celebration are also included." The 2 volumes are uniformly bound in the original gilt-stamped maroon cloth. Oversize Hardcover. 'Some of the greatest Christian prose poetry and music can be found in the worship services of Holy Week for the betrayal suffering death and resurrection of Our Lord has always inspired men to create the best. This Service Book contains many beautiful thoughts which tell tell the deep insight that the Syrian people have about their Savior His love for them and the terrible humiliation which He allowed to befall Himself so that mankind could be reconciled to the Father. It is a beautiful expression of a Christian culture which is neither Latin nor Greek but belongs to the ancient Semitic world. Today it is used in the Jacobite and Syrian Catholic Churches which are found mainly in the Near East and India. The style of these prayers is simple and direct very biblical in their orientation and devoid of any later western philosophical thought. It is meant to give voice to the cry that is in the hearts of the people a simple cry of love repeated time and again as the worshipper is struck by the vision or concept of the glorious transcendence of God now being abused. For the Syrian it is Christ the God-man who is suffering willingly to save man and this thought stirs the very core of his being.'. John XXIII Center for Eastern Christian Studies paperback

'This book explores anti-Chalcedonian asceticism in Palestine an area that has so far been relatively neglected in academic studies. Anti-Chalcedonian asceticism in Palestine is significant because it was in Jerusalem in the middle of the 5th century that monks who opposed the Council of Chalcedon first attempted to establish a dissenting anti-Chalcedonian ecclesiastical hierarchy. The monk Peter the Iberian in particular was a key force in this project because of his high-level political connections to the members of the imperial court in Constantinople. The beginnings of anti-Chalcedonian history in Palestine constitute the fist tangible manifestation of the schism between the adherents and opponents of the Council of Chalcedon a schism which endures until today. This study also offers a further contribution in the field work carried out on site in the Middle East which traced the footsteps of Peter the Iberian and his followers into the regions of modern Israel Palestine Jordan Lebanon Turkey and Sinai/Egypt.'
