419879Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church. Paperback. Fair. Signed copy. THERE ARE NO TARIFFS OR CUSTOMS DUTIES ON BOOKS. 'The building of Bloomsbury Chapel was a bold experiment' declared the Freeman in the obituary for the first minister William Brock. This book describes that experiment and shows how the story developed over 150 years as the church boldly sought in Brock's phrase 'to serve the present generation'. The mid-Victorian Bloomsbury church pioneered mission to the very poor and ran an enterprising day school. Reconstituted in 1905 as a central mission Bloomsbury was resourceful in reaching all manner of people. Through Depression and Blitz swinging 'sixties and secularized' eighties the church has stayed in the city centre a place of continual change believing that there the Gospel must be proclaimed. Relishing the variety of life on the doorstep Bloomsbury has been open to new scholarship new methods and above all to people. The church has been remarkable in persuading members to undertake hard and often unappealing work and in the enduring affection inspired in those who have belonged if only for a short time. Illustrated with quotations and reminiscences this study begins as history but is more a biography of a living church. This edition is in good condition with minor fading on the front and back covers of this paperback. Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church paperback
