Understanding toward other if uncompromising towards himself Paul is able to handle the problems of his parishioners as well as his younger brother Tim unstable and alcoholic. But more limited in his knowledge of himself he rejects the love of Connie feeling that her aims and his are disparate realizes his error and again is faced by his own spiritual shortcoming when he contracts infantile paralysis experiences a weakening of his faith in himself and in God.If the intentions here are more serious the results are still only rental effortlessly so.</p><p><strong>Insurance & handling is included free. A scarce children's pop-up book from Ernest Nister the first publisher to design pop-up books with this particular example including children's poems and short stories including by Frederic Weatherly. What The Children Like a scarce children's pop-up book with an introduction by author and lyricist F.E. Weatherly. Published by Ernest Nister in 1897. In quarter red cloth with pictorial paper boards. Contains five pop-up folding colour plates and numerous in-text illustrations. Collated complete.Ernest Nister was a pioneer of children's books being the first publisher to design pop-up books which he would create at his toy-making center in Nuremberg and later be shipped to both Britain and America. This particular pop-up book is an excellent original example of such a work containing many short stories and poems for children to enjoy including Blind Man's Buff. In quarter red cloth with pictorial paper boards. Externally slight fading and the faint marks to board heavier to the extremities and rear board. Slight rubbing to spine and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Loss to cloth on rear board extremities and signs of edgewear. Decorative end papers are generally bright and clean with slight fading to the extremities. Internally firmly bound with slight wear between leaves of Willie Would a Fishing Go. Pages are generally bright and clean with slight age toning while pop-up plates are bright and clean with slight creasing on left-hand side of pop-up with children racing. A pop-up book with introduction by Weatherly. 5 pop-up scenes plus numerous b/w illustrations. Green cloth spine pictorial front board shows children dancing around a Christmas tree. Decorative endpapers. Nister no. 853. Spine bumped and worn. Corners bumped and very worn. Board edges are scuffed. Boards are scratched and a bit grubby. Front joint cracked. Endpapers and page edges browned. Staples rusty. One page which has ragged edges is detached. 4" tear to last page of text plus other smaller tears to page edges and margins. Light colouring to several illustrations. Some fingering to contents. Horse's tail slightly creased in second pop-up and couple of small patches of surface paper damage in deer pop-up. Doublepage pop-up scenes 5 full of children - blind man's buff boating bicycling farmyard etc. Folio cloth spine pictorial boards spine worn to head & foot/covers edge worn 31pp. Titlepage torn without loss but with old cellotape marks gutters of 3 leaves reinforced with newer linen tape a few edge tears never touching printed or pop-up areas but 3 with old tape removal marks less than 1" into margin. The pop-ups are all complete and in working order with only part of one stag's horn in facsimile. One pony's tail re-attached from the back & a few wrong folds strengthened on back invisibly. All sorts of fragile pieces such as duck heads ribbons flying fingers etc are all intact. The text page edges have fared less well with some edge fingering and some edge chips but never affecting any print.
