Hardbound in 7.5x5 inch green cloth boards spine-titled in bright gilt a colorized photograph laid down on the front cover. This photo is a little edgeworn as are extremities of the cloth casing the paperstock very faintly and evenly toned a sound clean unmarked copy. The sun room is indeed impressive a restorative atmosphere in which to sip tea do household accounts and generally be gladdened that one has the wealth for all this. A.T. Franz" in priest's garb with white collar; the author recounts his awakening to a life of service to mankind apparently via a mystical experience aided by an extract of ".leaves combined according to certain laws."; his mystical 'call' to go to Mexico at first thinking that he was only going for a vacation and ending spending 12 years there as a faith healer; recounting his adventures and the events of his life in Mexico with occasional digression into why the U.S. ought to be paying more attention to the neighbor to the south in addition to his thoughts regarding a more spiritually-based United Nations of the world; the doctor brings people back from the dead among other miracles and the final 30 pages of the text are filled with the thankful testimonials of those the author healed - of kidney and bladder diseases psychological problems loss of memory various inflammations and illnesses of children and adults more; he was also able to make accurate predictions for rain; we have been unable to find any corroboration of this person's life or indeed any finding whatsoever on the Doctor; there are a few clues in the text regarding his giving of sermons in New York and there is a possibility that further research would reveal more; an OCLC search at time of cataloging disclosed nothing that we could find; a couple of pencil numbers & names on title page & dedication page; printed single-side in double-space typing as is usual with a typescript; with an errata page at back; in blue stiff-paper covers about 8 ¼" x 11" size; with cloth spine glued-on gilt cover title; some wear sunning to cover spine cloth coming away in pieces; photo portrait with some wrinkling; contents in very good condition still securely bound and an interesting account. . Hardcover. a lovely clean copy with no significant wear but the very faintest spotting to the bottom page edges less squinty eyes would call it Fine with nary a pause; jacket lightly soiled at the rear panel with some light wear and a couple of tiny tears along the top edge very attractive nonetheless. "A Panoramic Novel" sayeth the dust jacket -- which is another way of saying that the ever-popular Miss Baldwin or her publishers was not above pulling one of the oldest New-York-novelist tricks in the book that of concocting a stew of "interrelated stories" about a wide array of urban characters from sophisticated Social Register types to "racketeers taxi-drivers maids actors secretaries and interns" in the hope that it would magically bubble into a novel with a unifying central theme. The double-copyright date though 1936 and 1937 blows its cover: all eight stories in this book were published in Cosmopolitan as novelettes most under the same titles from October 1936 through May 1937; were they "interrelated" at that point I wonder or was their anthologization the equivalent of a literary shotgun marriage One story by the way "Comet Over Broadway" was filmed under that title in 1938. And just to tie up the packaging in a nice neat bow at the very end of the book is a three-page preview of her next novel "Twenty-Four Hours a Day" also blurbed on the rear jacket flap. .
