Sarna was an editor and translator for the new Jewish Publication Society translation of the Bible and is the general editor of its Bible Commentary Project, and, after retiring from Brandeis University, academic consultant for Judaica. He was a departmental editor of the Encyclopaedia Judaica for Biblethe period of the Pentateuch, the Desert, Joshua and Judges and also contributed major articles to the Encyclopaedia Britannnica, the Encyclopaedia Hebraica, the Encyclopaedia Biblica Hebraica, the Encyclopaedia of Religion, and the Oxford Companion to the Bible. He has written over 100 scholarly articles. One of the major thrusts of his work has been to make the Bible and biblical scholarship available to the broad Jewish community. An uncommon and translated illustrated edition of Wrecked on a Reef or Twenty Months Among the Auckland Isles a true story written by French sailor François-Edouard Raynal. Published by Thomas Nelson and Sons 1896 first published in 1869.In the publisher's original blue pictorial cloth. Contains a frontispiece and all thirty-nine other illustrated plates including an illustrated vignette. Collated complete.A vivid first-hand account of a remarkable story concerning a small company of ship-wrecked sailors aboard the Grafton shipwreck on the Auckland Isles in 1864. Reading the account we are exposed to Raynal's own thoughts and perspective as well as learning how he survived. In the publisher's original blue pictorial cloth. Externally smart with the odd small mark. Slight rubbing to the edges and joints. Fading to the spine and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Green end papers are generally bright and clean with slight offsetting. Internally firmly bound with minor wear to hinges between leaves pp.286-287 and p.350 and rear free end paper. A magazine edited by Sixties poet and radical John Sinclair co-founder of the White Panthers Party and one-time manager of the band MC5. This issue of the magazine was rushed into production shortly before Sinclair was to report to jail for an earlier conviction for selling marihuana to an undercover agent. His incarceration lead to a host of protests most notably Allen Ginsberg who rushed the stage during The Who's Woodstock performance to plead Sinclair's case and John Lennon who recorded the song "John Sinclair" on his album Some Time in New York City.
