Very near fine with paper clip mark on front endpapers where the review slip was originally attached; in attractive very good or better dustwrapper with some rubbing and a modest chip on the spine and internal tape repair. A romantic comedy where a headstrong actress marries an adventurer on an impulse and they both try to work it out. Basis for the 1936 movie of the same name starring Henry Fonda Margaret Sullavan and Beulah Bondi. Signed presentation from Baldwin to mystery writer Mignon Eberhart and her husband: "Mignon and Alan with much love from their Faith." The friendship between Baldwin and Eberhart is well documented with Eberhart sometimes called mystery's Faith Baldwin. Eberhart dedicated her 1935 novel The House On The Roof to Baldwin and her companion Gonnie. Eberhart is considered the founder of the modern romantic suspense novel and introduced female heroines preceding Agatha Christie's Jane Marple. She was one of the leading female crime novelists in the United States and sometimes referred to as the American Agatha Christie. Farrar & Rinehart hardcover

199927609
New York:: Scribner's 1999. First Printing of the First US Edition. A Fine copy in a Fine dust jacket. Faith Stewart-Gordon's revealing memoir shows why the legendary Russian Tea Room restaurant lives up to its reputation -- and then some. It's not just about a famous place it is a true memoir at times very funny always touching sometimes sad and often revealing about a brave and quirky young South Carolina woman Faith Stewart-Gordon. From the early 1950s and acting on Broadway to her marriage to the Russian Tea Room owner Sidney Kaye and her subsequent struggles to operate the restaurant after his death she balanced a career and young motherhood a journey with which many will empathize. Faith Stewart-Gordon never lost sight of what went on behind the scenes both in the restaurant and in her own life. The Russian Tea Room is not only a story of survival but of the quest for self-knowledge set against the most glamorous of backgrounds.
Scribner's, hardcover
