With the bookplate of Barklie McCalmont who served as an officer in the 6th Foot but retired as a Captain in 1888. He was a reserve officer up until 1899 when he was appointed Commanding officer of the 5th Militia Battalion. There appears to be an authentic signature Halliwell Sutcliffe opposite the half-title page. Dust jacket is shelfworn; creasing wear and small nicks and chips to jacket edges tanned notable to spine with a large dampstain to spine and rear with additional age-related blemishes present. Pageblock tanned and lightly foxed this leading onto pastedowns and endpapers. Green cloth boards are in fine condition with gilt book details to spine and pageblock head dyed a complementary hue. Within pages are tightly bound and content unmarked. Superbly illustrated by A Reginald Smith with twelve coloured plates and seventy-four b&w drawings set within the text.
