Oversized hardcover, 2 volumes bound together. Fully bound in red leather with embossed gilt decorations and gilt lettering to front. Gilt decorations to spine and to rear board, and full gilt page block. Illustrated with nearly four hundred engravings in the text and sixteen etchings on steel plates. This book has been rebacked and has much exterior wear; covers are marked and the leather has been rubbed away at the corners, edges and spine ends. Despite the worn exterior, the internal contents have remained bright and clear with minimal foxing throughout and light tanning of page edges. Penned number annotation to front pastedown, no other extraneous markings. This book would have been very impressive in its day and still retains its beautiful character today. AD Used
