Front cover and spine panel have faint dot-sized light soil spots with some light foxing to top ends. Corner tips lightly rubbed. Attractive bookplate to pastedown. Sewing sound but joints cracked amateur reinforcements to hinges general mild wear to boards internally with occasional spots of foxing but largely clean: just Very Good.<br /> <br /> Mungo Park 1771-1806 was an early explorer in Africa whose 1799 about his first journey along the Niger River Travels into the Interior of Africa earned him great popularity and is #16 in Blockson's Commented Bibliography. In 1805 he undertook a second expedition. He led his group overland to Bamako losing many members to dysentery. He reached Ségou and Sansanding in modern-day Mali and sailed on reportedly reached the Bussa rapids in modern-day Nigeria. But in late 1805 his party was attacked by native Africans who he had antagonized and Park drowned. His journal was sent back to the UK where it was published with statements from the expedition guides Amadi Fatouma and Isaaco.
