With the item’s worn envelope with ‘British Embassy / Berlin.’ printed on the damaged flap addressed by Malet to ‘Sir Robert Head Bt. / 97 Zimmer Strasse’ and initialed by him at bottom-left ‘R B Malet’. The letter which is signed ‘Edward B Malet’ begins: ‘Dear Sir Robert Head / My wife will be very happy to take you and Lady Head to Countess Brockdorff’s on Monday at 3 1/2. I shall be glad to lend you a frock coat for the occasion as it is clear hat you cannot have one made by then - and you could put it on when you come here on Monday.’ He ends by stating that he ‘lent one to Mr. Fraser for this same occasion this afternoon’ and that he thinks they are ‘all three of the same size more or less’. 14 January 1893; on letterhead of the British Embassy, Berlin. unknown

Binding firm. Vintage owner signature of G. W. C. Evans on front pastedown otherwise unmarked. Unfortunately lacking main title so we are unable to confirm publisher edition or year of issue and we have been unable to match this copy based on pagination; printer indicated as R. Carr Church-Alley on final page of text thus indicating this edition to have been printed in Philadelphia most likely in the first decade of the 19th century Carr is listed as a printer at 19 and 10 Church Alley in the 1808 Philadelphia City Directory and other of his printings located institutionally are dated 1803-10. Interior otherwise decently intact with scattered foxing generally light ranging in a few places to moderate. This edition does not appear to have contained illustrations or maps. Hardcover
