Bella legatura coeva in tutta pelle rosse con titolo, filetti, fregi e nome dell'antico collezzionista (un Marchese) impressi in oro al dorso. Piatti foderati con carta marmorizzata coeva. Seconda non comune edizione, in perfette condizioni di conservazione, di questo importante resoconto africano. D'Ollone (1868-1945) fu un celebre ufficiale militare francese. Capitano di fanteria, fu inviato a condurre una missione esplorativa nell'Africa occidentale tra il 1898 ed il 1900, missione che è proprio ripercorsa in questo volume. Pochi anni dopo D'Ollone, guidò anche una missione scientifica in Cina (1906-1909). Fu nominato generale di brigata nel 1919, e si distinse come ufficiale dalle grandi doti durante il primo conflitto mondiale tanto da ottenere la Legion d'Onore francese nel 1933. L'opera ricostruisce la flora, la fauna, i paesaggi ed i costumi delle popolazioni locali incontrate. Prima edizione in piccolo formato, della prestigiosa opera di Prevost. con una pianta geografica della "Ville de Diu" (più volte ripiegata su se stessa) e due tavole incise in rame fuori testo. Stato di conservazione: Un alone (presumibilmente causato da una pregressa umidità) sul margine verticale bianco (bordo) delle pagine interne (su molte appena visibile, su altre leggermente più marcato); un timbro riportante il nome di un antico proprietario sulla prima pagina bianca ed una firma d'appartenenza a penna sul frontespizio; un forellino di tarlo sul bordo bianco inferiore della pianta geografica fuori testo; un minuscolo foro sul foglio che contiene la pagina 269-270, uno strappo (senza mancanza) sul bordo bianco verticale del foglio che contiene le pagine 399-400,qualche leggero segno d'usura sulla coperta e sul dorso ma, nel complesso, un esemplare abbastanza ben conservato. la presente inserzione fa riferimento esclusivamente al tomo secondo di quest'opera.
