Original printed wraps backed in library cloth. 18.5 x 12.5 cm. Ex-Sondley Reference Library with tasteful bookplate on blank verso of front wrap several embossed stamps and several marginal ink stamps. Else good plus. Wraps are soiled and show creases and minor chips to the corners. The book is printed on cheap wood-pulp paper and the leaves are uniformly tanned as usual but show only minor wear a few minuscule edge tears and corner chips; the title page is a little foxed. FIRST EDITION. The book was also issued in publisher's cloth. Contains general advice on the planting and care of fruit trees plus chapters on peaches apples cherries pecans etc. One chapter discusses viticulture describes a multitude of native grapes and provides a brief primer on winemaking. The ads include those for many local businesses in Georgia North Carolina and other places in the South; several printers and newspapers are represented as well as nurseries and orchards. We were unable to learn much about the author. This is the first publication by Peek or associated with Hartwell Nurseries that we could locate in OCLC or NUC. One of his later publications indicates that he established Hartwell Nurseries in 1882. Not in De Renne. Scarce in the trade. Jas. P. Harrison & Co. paperback
