This is the first issue of the Doughboy. Camp Benning Fort Benning is located near Columbus Georgia. The Camp was established in 1909 and named after Confederate General Henry Benning. Dwight D. Scarce Washington Georgia imprint. <br /> <br /> The editor Jesse Mercer 1769-1841 was a Baptist Minister who moved to Washington Georgia in the 1820's. He was Pastor of the Washington Georgia Baptist Church and one of the founders and the first leader of the Georgia Baptist Convention. He published two newspapers in Washington Georgia: The Christian Index and The Temperance Banner. He was the name sake for Mercer University in Penfield and later Macon Georgia. Fair condition only.
