The frozen conditions of the Altai region of Siberia preserved the contents of the barrow tombs which were first excavated at Pazyryk in 1929, and later by the author from 1947-1949. In addition to metal and ceramic materials they discovered mummified bodies and finely decorated leather and textiles and carved wooden artifacts reflecting the life of the people and their horses. 177521554Paris 1775. Very good condition. Large detailed copper engraved map centering on Siberia from Nouvelle Zemle and the Arctic Circle down to Mer Caspiene Caspian Sea and Mer d'Aral. The map with captions above and below the neat lines stating that it shows the tracks of Johann Georg Gmelin and Louis Delisle from "Moskow a Berezow". Gmelin 1709 - 1755 and Delisle 1690-1741 were taking part in the Great Northern Expedition a huge exploring endeavor organized by the Russian emperor Peter the Great. The expedition resulted in the mapping of most of the Arctic coast of Siberia. With decorative cartouche. From Prevost's "L'Histoire Generale des Voyages".<br /> <br /> Bellin 1703 - 1772 one of the most noted French mapmakers of the 18th century was named the hydrographer chief cartographer to the French Navy and later the Official Hydrographer to the French King.<br /> <br /> Folding 19 x 12 1/4" with ample margins. Timbro di privata biblioteca. Un restauro alla cuffia superiore ma ottimo esemplare in barbe e a fogli chiusi. Prima edizione italiana (2° migliaio) di Pékin-Paris Automobile en Quatre-Vingt Jours (Parigi, 1907), partecipe resoconto di uno dei primissimi viaggi in automobile a lunga percorrenza, che, partendo da Pechino, toccò la Grande Muraglia, la Mongolia, il deserto di Gobi, la Siberia, la Russia, la Polonia, la Germania, il Belgio, la Francia, giungendo infine nella capitale francese dopo circa 16.000 chilometri di viaggio. Delle 25 vetture iscritte al raid solo cinque si presentarono alla partenza, date le difficoltà organizzative e di percorso della gara, e la prima a presentarsi al traguardo fu quella italiana, guidata da Scipione Borghese e Ettore Guizzardi, con, al loro seguito, il giornalista Luigi Barzini, che immortalò l'evento nel suo celebre volume "La metà del mondo vista da un'automobile". Il Du Taillis, scrittore e giornalista, era corrispondente del "Matin", per cui seguì la celebre corsa automobilistica. Italiano
